History of Street Performers in Boston

Why are Street Performers called Buskers? The term became synonymous for public performing in Great Britain around the 1860s. The term to 'busk' comes from a Spanish root word 'buscar' that means to seek. Some public performers seek attention of crowds in hopes of achieving fame. All buskers enjoy entertaining and making money is usually not the sole purpose, but a bonus.
